Starting my weight loss journey today...

Hi, my name is SD. I'm in my mid 20s. During last couple of years, I'd gained about 25-30lbs, and now I would like to lose this extra weight. One thing about me is that I hate diets. Diet and I don't get along. Whenever I hear a word "diet" I want to eat. Plus, I love food.

You would think how am I going to lose weight then? Simple. Listen to my body, eat whenever I'm hungry, stop when I'm satisfied, exercise. Ok, not that simple. I really want to learn to listen to my body though. I truly believe that healthy eating and exercise will put me in the right direction. I have this app called "No More Diets" on my iPhone. Dr. Jenn guides me how to listen to my body, how to have a healthy relationship with food. One of the important things she tells is that this process is not going to be perfect. I shouldn't be too hard on myself. Baby steps.

First, I'd like to identify what is causing my weight gain. I think my biggest problems are overeating and lack of exercise. I grew up with a mentality that I have to finish what's on my plate. And working 8 to 5 in front of the pc isn't helping me as well. Although I try to stay away from junk food and soda, I do love dining out.

Second, what is my goal? I'm 5'4'', and 150lbs now. My body fat percentage is 35%. I know it's bad. According to American Council on Exercise (ACE), I'm obese. My goal weight is 120lbs and 21-24% body fat.

How am I planning to achieve my goal? I don’t believe in diet pills, diet regimens, anything that says “easy to lose weight”.  I don’t believe losing weight is easy. If I want to achieve healthy weight and get tight body, I need to work hard. So, here is my plan:
1)  I will start working out at least 5 days a week for 30-60 minutes. I bought an elliptical machine and put it in my living room in front of the TV.  I’m allowed to watch a movie, or favorite TV shows, only if I’m on my elliptical.
2) I will follow Dr. Jenn’s instructions to eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m satisfied.  Eat as healthy as possible.
3) I will eat out only once a week.

I will start with these three steps. These are not easy, of course. If anyone would like to join me on this journey, please feel free to do so. I’d like to build a community who will support, encourage and help each other throughout the process.

I will be posting a weekly review on how did I do with motivational posts in between.
